Modesto Hosts Passport Fair to Facilitate International Travel Plans

Residents Encouraged to Attend Special Event for Passport Applications

Attention, Modesto residents planning international travel: A unique opportunity to apply for a U.S. passport in person is coming to our city.

The Modesto City Clerk's Office is organizing a passport fair on Saturday, January 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Modesto City-County Airport, located at 617 Airport Way.

This event aims to provide a more personalized experience, especially for adults and children obtaining their passports for the first time.

Why is a U.S. Passport or California Real ID Important?

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security mandates that individuals aged 18 or older possess a federally approved document—such as a U.S. passport or a Real ID driver’s license—to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities.

Do I Need an Appointment for the Passport Fair?

While walk-ins are welcome, the city recommends scheduling an appointment to ensure timely service. To book an appointment, call 209-577-5333 or visit the city's website for online booking.

Applicants are encouraged to complete their application forms in advance, print them out, and bring the unsigned forms along with an acceptable passport photo, necessary fees, and required documents.

Who is Eligible to Apply for a U.S. Passport?

Eligibility criteria include:

- Being a U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization

- Being a qualifying U.S. non-citizen national

Applicants must provide:

- A valid form of photo identification (e.g., current driver’s license, government ID, or military photo ID)

- A certified copy of their birth certificate, original certificate of naturalization, or an old passport

- A recent passport photo

Passport Photo Requirements

Passport photos must be color photos taken within the past six months. A comprehensive list of photo requirements is available on the U.S. Department of State's website. Notably, passport photo services will be available at the event.

Passport Processing Fees

For first-time applicants aged 16 or older, the fees are as follows:

- Passport Book: $130 application fee

- Passport Card: $30 application fee

- Both Book and Card: $160 application fee

All applicants must also pay a $35 acceptance fee. For children under 16, the fees are:

- Passport Book: $100 application fee

- Passport Card: $15 application fee

- Both Book and Card: $115 application fee

Plus the $35 acceptance fee.

Passport Renewal Information

Individuals aged 16 or older can renew their passports by mail or online. The fees are:

- Passport Book: $130

- Passport Card: $30

- Both Book and Card: $160

Processing Times

According to the U.S. Department of State, standard processing times are four to six weeks, excluding mailing times. Expedited service, available for an additional fee, reduces processing to two to three weeks. For urgent travel within two weeks, applicants should schedule an appointment at a passport agency or center.
